"Still."

One month later...

I am still living with my parents, which is still frustrating.  I am still at New Choices as a Direct Care Associate, and I've been working on my own for a few weeks now.  I am still looking for something better.

This job is not really what I expected, and I'm not terribly good at it. It is essentially babysitting adults, which is not my cup of tea. I hope that doesn't sound condescending, but it's true. I spend my time making sure that my clients behave well in public, don't destroy things, and don't spend all of their money on Taco Bell and gum.  Throw in the occasional karaoke night, weekly dodgeball, and a whole lot of Lifetime movies, and you pretty much have my job.

I wholeheartedly appreciate the loving, wonderful, caring people that do this job every day and absolutely love it. If there is anything I've learned in the past month, though, it is this: I am not cut out for direct social services.

I am hoping and praying, though, that I will hear from a recruiter at Ashford University this week about an open Student Advisor position, which I interviewed for on Monday! The interview went really well, and now there are just references to check. I might be freaking out a little bit.

Here's to hoping for another new start!
